Little Things Become Big Things

Tuesday, April 28, 2015 | Category: Function

My youngest daughter made her First Communion on Sunday so that gave us the opportunity to have family over afterward to celebrate, including my dad.

My dad is a carpenter, builder, and all-around really handy guy. Basically, the opposite of me.

So when he's at our house, I ask him to check out various "things" that I have no idea about.

Plus, he notices things that I haven't even noticed.

This particular visit I asked him to look at a spot on our bathroom ceiling that was obviously a leak, but I didn't know where it was coming from.

He went outside and promptly saw that we had a couple shingles missing. "Better get someone over here before that causes a big problem."

We were down in the basement, and my dad was looking in the bathroom. He just so happened to see that it was a little wet (just a little!!) under the valve of the toilet. That, too, had a very small leak so we tightened it. Problem solved.

And that's when he said, "Those little things become big things if you don't take care of them soon enough."

And, of course, that made me think about HEALTH and how it's the exact same principle.

Eating that extra piece of cake or scoop of ice cream. Choosing french fries over vegetables. Allowing stress to take over your life. Sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours and only getting up twice. Watching TV instead of going for a walk. Telling yourself you can't do anything about your situation because of your genetics or age.

It's NOT your genetics. It's NOT your age. It's the "little things" you CHOOSE to do that are the cause the BIG PROBLEMS you will experience.

If you follow my dad's advice, you'll...
